Nightly Devotional — Proverbs (Day 19 of 31)

Proverbs 19 — Theme: Slow down—wisdom saves you from regret

Scripture

Proverbs 19:2“Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, And he sins who hastens with his feet.”

Reflection

Proverbs 19 gives a warning that hits hard in a fast world: hurry creates mistakes. When you move too quickly—talk too fast, decide too fast, react too fast—you don’t just risk being wrong… you risk sin.

“It is not good for a soul to be without knowledge.” That means wisdom requires learning, listening, and discernment. Rushing skips all of that. Hurry doesn’t ask questions. Hurry doesn’t pray. Hurry doesn’t wait for clarity. Hurry just moves—then cleans up the mess later.

And most regret is not from evil intentions—it’s from hasty feet. A rushed response. A quick purchase. A snap decision. A “yes” you should’ve prayed about. A “no” said out of fear.

Tonight, God is inviting you into a slower, wiser pace. Not lazy—led. Not passive—prayerful. When you slow down, you create room for the Spirit to guide you.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the times I rush ahead without wisdom. Teach me to slow down and seek knowledge, counsel, and Your direction before I move. Guard me from impulsive decisions and reactive words. Give me patience, self-control, and discernment. Help me walk at Your pace tomorrow—steady, wise, and obedient. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Takeaway for Tonight

Hurry is expensive. Wisdom is patient. Before you sleep, pray: “Lord, slow my feet and steady my heart.”
