Nightly Devotional — Proverbs (Day 12 of 31)
Proverbs 12 — Theme: Faithful words heal
Scripture (NKJV)
Proverbs 12:18
“There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise promotes health.”
Some wounds don’t come from fists—they come from phrases. A harsh comment. A cutting joke. A repeated criticism. Words can puncture the heart like a blade, and the scars can linger long after the conversation ends.
But Proverbs 12 gives us a different picture of strength: the tongue of the wise promotes health. Wise speech doesn’t just “avoid damage”—it actively brings healing. It restores dignity. It calms anxious hearts. It gives courage. It builds faith. It speaks truth with love.
Tonight is a moment to ask: Have my words been a sword… or a balm?
And if today you were on the receiving end of painful words, God sees that too. The Lord can heal what people harmed. He can replace lies with truth, and shame with peace.
Tomorrow you’ll have another chance to speak life. Not perfect words—faithful words. Words that reflect Jesus.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for any words I’ve spoken that cut instead of healed. Cleanse my heart, because I know my mouth reveals what’s inside me. Make me wise in my speech. Help me speak truth without cruelty, correction without pride, and honesty without harm. And Lord, where I have been wounded by words, I bring that pain to You—heal me, strengthen me, and guard my heart. Let my words tomorrow promote health in my home, my work, and my relationships. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Takeaway for Tonight
Before you sleep, choose one person you’ll encourage tomorrow—then do it early.
