Day 13 of 31 — John 13

Scripture (John 13:15, NKJV)

“For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”

John 13 is where Jesus shows us what love looks like when it’s not just words. The King of Glory wraps Himself in a towel and kneels low—doing the kind of work nobody fights to do. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone. He was teaching a kingdom lesson:

Greatness in the Kingdom is measured by service.

Foot washing wasn’t glamorous—it was gritty. And that’s the point. Jesus didn’t love from a distance. He loved up close, in humility, with hands-on compassion. Then He tells His disciples (and us): Do as I have done.

If you want to follow Jesus today, it may not start with a stage—it may start with a towel:

  • a quiet act of kindness,

  • a hard conversation spoken in love,

  • a decision to forgive,

  • serving your family when you’re tired,

  • helping someone who can’t repay you.

This is the mark of discipleship: love that serves.

Practical application

  • Ask: “Who can I serve today in a way that costs me something small?”

  • Choose one humble action (a call, a note, a meal, a chore, a check-in).

  • Pray before you serve: “Jesus, let them feel Your love through me.”

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me what real love looks like. Give me Your humility today. Help me serve without needing credit, love without keeping score, and obey You even when it’s inconvenient. Make my life a living example of Your compassion. Amen.
