Nightly Devotional — Proverbs (Day 14 of 31)
Proverbs 14 — Theme: Peace is built on the inside first
Scripture (NKJV)
Proverbs 14:30
“A sound heart is life to the body,
But envy is rottenness to the bones.”
Proverbs 14 goes straight to something that quietly steals joy: envy. It doesn’t always show up as obvious jealousy. Sometimes it looks like comparison. Discontent. Quiet resentment. The feeling that someone else’s life is “working” while yours feels heavy.
God doesn’t call envy a small thing—He calls it rottenness to the bones. That means it doesn’t just affect your mood; it corrodes your peace, your gratitude, your relationships, and even your health. Envy turns blessings into burdens because it keeps your eyes on what you don’t have instead of what God has given.
But look at the contrast: a sound heart is life to the body. A peaceful heart doesn’t come from perfect circumstances—it comes from a settled trust in God’s goodness. A heart that can say, “Lord, You’re faithful with my story too. You’re not late. You’re not careless. You’re not withholding out of spite.”
Tonight, let the Lord cleanse comparison out of your mind. Celebrate what God is doing in others—and trust Him with what He’s doing in you. Peace is possible. And it starts in the heart.
Prayer
Father, I give You my heart tonight. Forgive me for comparison, envy, and discontent—whether I spoke it or just carried it quietly. Heal what’s been rotting in me and replace it with gratitude, peace, and trust. Teach me to rejoice with others and to rest in Your timing for my life. Give me a sound heart—one that is steady, thankful, and full of faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Takeaway for Tonight
Envy says, “God forgot me.”
Faith says, “God is faithful with my story too.”
