Nightly Devotional — Proverbs (Day 15 of 31)

Proverbs 15 — Theme: A gentle answer is strength

Scripture (NKJV)

Proverbs 15:1

“A soft answer turns away wrath,

But a harsh word stirs up anger.”

A lot of spiritual battles don’t look “spiritual.” They look like a tense conversation. A misunderstood text. A disagreement at home. A moment where emotions rise fast and patience runs thin.

Proverbs 15 gives us a weapon that feels backwards: a soft answer. Not a weak answer. Not a passive answer. A controlled answer. A Spirit-led answer.

Harsh words are easy when you’re tired. Easy when you feel disrespected. Easy when you want to win. But Scripture says harshness doesn’t solve the problem—it stirs up anger. It adds fuel. It widens the gap.

A gentle response can do what volume never can: it turns away wrath. It lowers the temperature. It keeps the relationship intact. It gives room for truth to land without explosions.

Tonight, if you ended the day with tension—there is grace. God can soften hearts, including yours. And tomorrow, you can choose the soft answer early… before the fire starts.

Prayer

Father, make my words gentle and wise. Forgive me for any harshness, impatience, or pride in my speech today. Teach me to respond with self-control and love, even when I’m frustrated or misunderstood. Heal tension in my relationships and help me be a peacemaker in my home and in my conversations. Let my words tomorrow turn away wrath and reflect the heart of Jesus. In His name, amen.

Takeaway for Tonight

Before you respond tomorrow, pause and pray one sentence:

“Lord, put Your gentleness in my voice.”
