Jan 20, 2026- Morning Devoitional

Day 20 of 31 — John 20

Scripture (John 20:16, NKJV)

“Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).”

Devotional

John 20 is resurrection morning—grief turning into glory. Mary came to the tomb expecting death. She stayed because she loved Jesus, but she didn’t yet understand what God had done.

Then it happens: Jesus speaks her name. One word—“Mary”—and everything changes.

That’s what the risen Christ still does. He doesn’t only prove He’s alive with an empty tomb—He shows He’s alive by drawing near to broken hearts and calling people personally. When Mary heard His voice, her tears turned into worship. The One she thought was gone was standing right in front of her.

If you’re carrying sorrow, confusion, or unanswered questions, remember this: resurrection hope is not just an event—it’s a Person. And Jesus knows YOUR name. He meets you where you are, and He calls you forward into faith.

Practical application

  • Stay close like Mary did—don’t rush away from Jesus in your pain.

  • Ask in prayer: “Lord, help me recognize Your voice today.”

  • Share hope: Mary went and told the disciples. Who needs to hear, “Jesus is alive”?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You that You are risen and alive. When my heart is heavy and my eyes can’t see clearly, speak to me and steady me. Help me recognize Your voice and walk in resurrection hope. Call me forward into faith and obedience. Amen.
