1 John — Chapter 1 (Devotional)
Key Scripture (NKJV)
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” — 1 John 1:5
“If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” — 1 John 1:7
1 John opens with a simple, powerful foundation: God is light. Not “God has light,” not “God gives light,” but God is light—pure, holy, true, and completely without darkness.
That matters because we all feel the pull to hide. We hide mistakes, struggles, temptations, doubts, and wounds. But John says the Christian life isn’t about pretending—it’s about walking in the light. That means living honestly before God, letting Him expose what’s real, and trusting Him to cleanse and restore.
Walking in the light doesn’t mean you never stumble. It means you don’t stay in darkness. You don’t make peace with secret sin. You don’t cover it up—you bring it to Jesus. And the promise is strong: the blood of Jesus cleanses us. Not partially. Not temporarily. Cleanses.
So today, the invitation is clear:
Step into the light with God.
Confess what needs confessing.
Walk forward in truth.
And enjoy real fellowship—with God and with His people.
Practical application
Ask: “Lord, what am I trying to keep hidden?”
Confess it plainly to God (no excuses).
Take one step of light today: accountability, a hard conversation, deleting the temptation, making it right.
Prayer
Father, You are light, and in You there is no darkness. Shine Your truth into my heart. Give me courage to walk honestly with You. Cleanse me through the blood of Jesus, and lead me in righteousness. Help me live in the open—free, forgiven, and faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
