Nightly Devotional — Proverbs (Day 25 of 31)

Proverbs 25 — Theme: God’s timing is wisdom

Scripture (NKJV)

Proverbs 25:11

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold

In settings of silver.”

Reflection

Not every true thing needs to be said right now. And not every strong opinion needs a microphone. Proverbs 25 teaches that wisdom isn’t only what you say—it’s when you say it and how you say it.

“A word fitly spoken” is a word delivered at the right moment, with the right spirit, and for the right purpose. It’s not manipulation. It’s maturity. It’s truth wrapped in love. It’s correction without crushing. It’s encouragement that lands exactly where someone is hurting.

And God compares that kind of speech to something rare and beautiful—gold in silver. That means wise words don’t just communicate; they add value. They become memorable. They strengthen relationships. They point people toward peace and toward God.

Tonight, think back over your day:

  • Did I speak too quickly?

  • Did I hold back when I should’ve encouraged?

  • Did I share truth with gentleness—or with edge?

Tomorrow is another chance. Ask the Lord to make your words “fitly spoken”—so your mouth becomes an instrument of grace.

Prayer

Father, put Your wisdom in my mouth. Teach me to speak at the right time, with the right tone, and with the right heart. Forgive me for words that were rushed, careless, or harsh today. Help me encourage those who are weary, correct with gentleness, and stay silent when silence is wiser. Let my words tomorrow reflect Jesus—full of grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Takeaway for Tonight

Before you speak tomorrow, pray this:

“Lord, make my words timely and kind.”
