Jan 30,2026- Morning Devotional

Day 30 of 31 — John 20

Theme: From Grief to Glory

Scripture (John 20:16, 29, NKJV)

“Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’”

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Devotional

John 20 opens in the quiet ache of grief. Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb expecting death—and finds it empty. At first, she assumes the worst: someone has taken the body. Then Jesus speaks her name: “Mary.” In a single word, sorrow turns to joy, confusion gives way to clarity, and despair is replaced by living hope.

The resurrection isn’t just a miracle to admire; it’s a truth that changes everything. Jesus is alive. Sin is defeated. Death is broken. Hope is restored. And notice how personal it is—Jesus calls Mary by name. The risen Lord meets people where they are and sends them with purpose.

Later, Thomas wrestles with doubt. Jesus doesn’t shame him; He invites him to believe. Then comes the blessing that reaches all the way to us: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Faith isn’t blindness—it’s trust in the risen Christ, grounded in God’s faithful Word.

John ends the chapter with purpose: these things are written “that you may believe… and that believing you may have life in His name.” That life isn’t theoretical. It’s resurrection life—here and now.

Practical application

• Where has grief, fear, or disappointment clouded your hope? Listen for Jesus calling your name.

• Choose belief today—not based on what you feel, but on who Jesus is.

• Live sent: share the hope of the risen Christ with one person this week.

Prayer

Risen Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering sin and death. Call me by name again today. Strengthen my faith, even when I don’t see clearly. Help me live in the power of Your resurrection and carry Your hope to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
