Day 28 of 31 —
3 John (Chapter 1)
Scripture (NKJV)
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” — 3 John 1:2
“Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good.” — 3 John 1:11
3 John is a deeply personal letter, and it reminds us that faith shows up in everyday faithfulness.
John celebrates a believer named Gaius—not for preaching sermons or performing miracles, but for walking in truth and supporting others in the work of the gospel. His life matched his faith. His hospitality, generosity, and integrity all flowed from a healthy soul anchored in Christ.
This chapter also gives a warning. John contrasts Gaius with Diotrephes, a man who loved position and control more than truth and people. It’s a sober reminder that even in ministry, pride can creep in if our hearts aren’t surrendered.
God’s desire is clear:
a soul that prospers in truth,
a life that reflects goodness,
and a witness that quietly strengthens others.
Today’s discipleship lesson is simple but powerful: be faithful where you are, walk in truth, and let your character speak louder than your title.
Practical application
Ask: Is my soul healthy, or just my schedule busy?
Encourage one person today who is serving faithfully behind the scenes.
Choose humility over recognition in one situation today.
Prayer
Father, thank You for caring about the condition of my soul. Help me walk in truth, live with integrity, and reflect Christ in the small, unseen moments. Keep pride far from me and shape my life to honor You. Amen.
